Oildeco Size Guide

Choose art that feels intentional.

The right size is less about filling a blank wall and more about creating balance. Oildeco follows the same common wall-art sizing logic used by studio galleries: start with the space, then choose a width that feels proportional to your furniture.

The simplest rule

For artwork above furniture, choose a piece that is about two-thirds to three-quarters of the furniture width. If you are between two sizes, larger usually feels more finished.

Start With The Wall

Measure the wall or furniture first, then choose the format. Oildeco sizes are listed as height x width, so a 24"H x 48"W piece is horizontal, while a 48"H x 32"W piece is vertical.

Small Accent

24" to 36"

Best for narrow walls, small bedrooms, entry consoles, layered gallery moments, and spaces where the artwork should feel quiet.

Balanced Focal Point

36" to 60"

The most versatile range for sofas, beds, dining areas, offices, and rooms where the art should be clearly noticed.

Statement Scale

60" and larger

Use for open rooms, high ceilings, large sofas, wide beds, and feature walls that need a gallery-level presence.

Shop By Room

Each room asks for a different kind of scale. A living room often needs width and presence; an entryway needs a strong first impression; a bedroom usually benefits from softer, calmer proportions.

Living Room

Above a sofa, start with 36" x 72" or 40" x 80" for horizontal work, or 40" x 40" and larger for square pieces.

Bedroom

For queen and king beds, 36" to 48" square pieces feel calm and centered. Horizontal art works well above a wide headboard.

Entryway & Hallway

Vertical work gives narrow walls height. Start with 32" x 24", 40" x 30", or 48" x 32" depending on ceiling height.

Dining Room

Choose art that can be seen from across the table. Horizontal and square pieces from 36" to 60" usually feel most composed.

Recommended Sizes

These are practical starting points based on common furniture widths. If your room has high ceilings, open floor space, or very minimal furniture, move up one size.

Placement Recommended Art Width Oildeco Size Options Notes
Above a sofa
72" to 80" wide
36" to 48" 36"H x 36"W, 40"H x 40"W, 48"H x 48"W
24"H x 48"W
Good for apartments, standard sofas, and rooms where the artwork should feel balanced rather than oversized.
Above a sofa
84" to 96" wide
48" to 60" 48"H x 48"W, 55"H x 55"W, 60"H x 60"W
24"H x 48"W, 30"H x 60"W
This is the safest range for most living rooms. If the ceiling is high, choose the larger option.
Above a bed
Queen or king
48" to 72" 30"H x 60"W, 36"H x 72"W
40"H x 40"W, 48"H x 48"W, 55"H x 55"W
Center the artwork with the bed. A medium horizontal piece or one strong square is usually calmer than many small pieces.
Entryway / hallway
Narrow wall or console
24" to 40" 32"H x 24"W, 36"H x 24"W, 40"H x 30"W
30"H x 30"W, 36"H x 36"W
Height matters more than width here. Leave breathing room above and below the piece.
Dining room / office
Sideboard, table, or desk wall
36" to 60" 36"H x 36"W, 48"H x 48"W
24"H x 48"W, 30"H x 60"W, 36"H x 72"W
Choose enough scale to be read from across the room without making the wall feel crowded.

Choose The Format

The same artwork can feel very different depending on its format. Use proportion to guide the eye: horizontal for width, vertical for height, and square for balance.

Square

Clean and balanced. Good over fireplaces, consoles, beds, small sofas, and rooms that need a quiet focal point.

Vertical

Best for entryways, hallways, narrow walls, reading corners, and places where you want the wall to feel taller.

Horizontal

Natural above sofas, beds, dining consoles, and wide walls. It adds calm movement across the room.

How To Measure

A few minutes with painter's tape can prevent most sizing mistakes. Mark the outline on your wall and step back from the room's normal viewing distance.

Measure width

Measure the sofa, bed, console, or wall zone the artwork will relate to.

Apply the ratio

Aim for about 60% to 75% of the furniture width for a composed look.

Tape the outline

Use painter's tape to mark the size. Check it from the doorway and main seating position.

Adjust for mood

Choose smaller for quiet restraint, larger for a gallery-like statement.

Still unsure? Choose the larger size when the wall is open, the furniture is low, or the room has high ceilings. Choose the smaller size when the artwork is part of a layered corner or a tighter hallway.
